Home Inspectors usually perform such functions as: Performs an inspection inside and outside of the home. During the inspection of the interior of the home, the Inspector will open and close windows, stoop, squat, and bend to test systems, reach to test smoke alarms, etc. The Inspector will write a report throughout the entire process. Home Inspectors need to understand, in detail, building techniques (historical and contemporary) and the functions of all systems of a home. They troubleshoot existing problem conditions and offer a range of solutions and are called upon to play detective to determine cause and effect. They are asked to determine if a proposed remodel is practical and workable and will need to understand what a client intends to accomplish and offer suggestions and to provide approximate costs. They need to know the Uniform Building Codes and will have to determine safety and health hazards.
